NetzBon

NetzBon is the local (or alternative) currency for the Basel region. It was first issued to the public in 2005 by the “Cooperative Network Social Economy” to take a stance against the drain of capital to foreign markets and to encourage local, social and ecological sustainability. Today, the underlying ideas are still crucial and highly topical, as evidenced by recent developments: In 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively, currencies were established in Bern (Bonobo), Geneva (Léman) and Winterthur (EulachTaler).

The project started in 2005 with 10,000 NetzBon (= 10,000 CHF) and a network of 25 organisations. The number has risen up to 140 organisations and over 30,000 NetzBon in recent years. In July 2015, NetzBon’s 10th anniversary was celebrated with a new name (BonNetzBon became NetzBon), a new series of notes, a more diverse offer as well as a brand-new website including a web shop.
